Recently http://www.facebook.com has decided to allow people with out .edu e-mails to join the site. Facebook is no longer college student only, but i still don't think the 'event' section will go as far as i want it to. It's still basically frat parties and birthday parties, and you don't really get a reminder, just something comes up on your home page telling you were invited or are attending.. so it's still completely different from my site where people could post a gathering at midnight and people would get a text message.. the only thing they really changed is that they are allowing other people to join, how that will change the site i don't know.. i think facebook is a college based site, and really the only people they will be getting now are high schoolers, college students whose college do not give them a .edu e-mail, and buisness people snooping into what their possible employees friends, activities, and other personal things are.
Livejournal/Myspace
So i continue to look at popular sites and what they have going for them, some people suggested i take some features from blogging sites like http://www.Myspace.com and http://www.Livejournal.com, after looking the sites over the only thing i think i would use is the userpic option. I really don't want my site filled with blogs about how depressed people are, or whats going on at work/school, whatever.. that's not what my site is about. This site will be about getting together with people, most get togethers are happy or exciting.. if people really wanted to they could create an emo gathering and by all means i will not stop them.. but i don't want other people to have to listen to it. Another thing i might use from them is the customizable homepage, most blogs you can create your background, give it music and images. I think that would be perfect for my site, that way people who see a gathering such as Zombie Holocaust, there could be a zombie picture in the background and maybe sore eerie music playing as well. it would allow the user to emphasize the feeling of the gathering..

Deviant art
Though http://www.deviantart.com has nothing to do with social gatherings i got a few ideas from it. On deviantart (dA) people have their own little homepage where they upload their art, they also can watch other peoples art and can send messages. alot of people have their homepage filled with people thanking them for the watch, or telling them they love their work. I think this would be a good idea to incorporate into my page.. Allowing people to send messages to others, telling them they enjoyed the party, or asking when the next one will be, if anything this will encourage people to continue having the gathering, you could also rate the party, that way people will not what aspects of it worked and what didn't.. much like how people on dA will tell people on their artwork what works and what they can work on.
http://www.facebook.com has a similar aspect to it's webpage. People are able to send out party invitations, whether it's open and everyone on the page hears about it, or personal and only those invited get the message. This is alot like what i am doing, but my page goes beyond what face book is doing. Facebook only allows college students to access their page, which is great it's their target audience, but i want everyone to be able to use my page. Also on facebooks page it's almost always a frat party. But that is also because of it's audience. People often don't pay attention to this feature, because unless you specifically are invited to the party, the information does not appear on the main page and you have to go and look and see.. and then you have to sort through all the parties to find one you might be interested in.. there's no way to search for common interest parties, or should you go to someones party there is no way to keep tabs on that person should they decide to have another one.
I want to have these things in my webpage, a way to search for certain types of gatherings, and though there could be a 'friend' type button, it would be more of a watch, should you enjoy a party someone else has had the next time the update you will get a message telling you.

Mapping for Party page
I also had to do a mind map for my other idea the flash mob webpage. this mapping included areas in "personal", "community' and "mapping".. here's how it went:
Flash Mob Webpage
Personal
Allows you to choose what types of gatherings you hear about
Religious people wont hear about zombie gatherings
can hear about mulitple types of gatherings
Can speify how you hear about it
Text Message to Cell Phone
E-mail
Message to your profile on the site
Community
Allows people tp advertise a gathering
Planned
Spur of the moment
Gets people with a common interest together
more people to play
will give people ideas for gatherings
create more gathering
make a game spand accross the country
can show where people can have gatherings of their own
will help buisnesses rent out rooms
rate a gathering
allows people to know what was good or bad
Mapping
Creates a map of users
allows peolpe tp choose to know only about their area
They don't have to go through a whole webpage to find their area
can specify distance
will show the most common gathering area

Mapping for webcomics
for homework we had to create a mental map of our project and how it would incorporate other things and what it would be about. The mapping for my webcomic did not start off very well.. and i wasn't able to find many aspects to it that would really interest people. the 3 main sections were 'colaborationl', 'entertainment', and 'community'.. which are good areas to be.. but it took me a long time to think of them.. which means i hadn't really thought through the whole webpage.. this is pretty much how the map went
Webcomic mapping
Enterainment
Group alike entertainment
Catagorized by the people
Grouped in various ways
Main character personality
Secondary character personality
Plot line
Furry vs. Non-furry
Almost like a TV guide
shows all webcomics
could show how often updated
Community
Awareness
Shows even the uncommon
gives a short insight into the plot
creates a directory
allows people to find all their webcomics in one place
allows people to create a side page with just their favorites
would allow people to search for the higher ranking ones
Colaboration
Allows other webcomic artists to meet
Combine comic ideas
Allow other artist to get help if needed from other artists

continuing idea
Ok.. continuing on my last idea.. since it wouldn't make since just to go to a website to see if there's a party or what ever.. instead once you've logged on you can see parties or what ever that have been up there and have been planned.. but also you can designate a certain area.. such as 20 miles in your profile. that way should anyone suddenly and randomly at midnight start up a game and want people to join.. and if the party was within you specific area you would get an e-mail.. or maybe even text message.. if i can figure that out.. telling you about it and where it is.. could maybe even have people select what their interests are.. so if your into religious gatherings you wont get a message about Holocaust Zombies..
3rd Idea
completely new idea.. and it's thanks to 3 of my friends.. pretty much the 4 of us got together and created this whole game out of no where.. we had a lot of fun.. but we believe it would have been better had there been more people.. which reminds me of all the times Jon would tell us about flash mobs.. but they would get it on their cell phone after sending an e-mail to the right person.. and frankly.. that's too complicated.. so my idea is a website where you can log in and put your exact coordinates, After logging in you could see any gatherings of any kind varying from close or far away.

2nd idea
based on the previous idea.. but incorporating Anime made by professionals as well, and possibly even Mangas (Graphic novels).. this would give people an even broader range to choose from. Because then people who read webcomics could also see an Anime they might like as well.. i only bring this up because many times when i say anime people automatically think "Pokemon", "Digimon" or other children's cartoons that have stereotyped the style. which makes people not want to watch any anime.
1st idea
This idea was given to me by my friend and ex-New Media major.. it pretty much is creating a website filled with networks connecting characters from webcomics. Much like when you go into a library you can usually find all the same types of books, ex: science fiction, history, etc., all in the same section. This webpage would allow you to write a description of the webcomic, and then a short description of the main and secondary characters. Then when someone else adds a webcomic they can either create a new genre for that comic, or connect to the previous one by content or character personalities. This would allow you to find comics much like the ones you already like, since the only way to really find out about webcomics is from the ones you already watch and that author's favorites.. but there is a huge section that isn't seen because they aren't as well known.

First post-first Idea
Not exactly sure what i want to do for my capstone, first i need to decide how what i want to do can be related to what would fit in the boundries of the project and the terms of 'New Media" . My passion in life is drawing Anime, and i would like to think of some way to incorporate that into my project. I'm not exactly sure it's even possible, but i'd like to try.
I've been told a few ideas which involve a community of characters based on comics, web comics or graphic novels and how they all link to one another. Whether by personality, situation, etc. But i'm still not sure if this would count as New Media.
